We Were Made To Eat Together
Why Soul Revival Church prioritises eating meals together every week
One of the distinctive practices of my church is that we eat together. A lot. We have eight church Gatherings over a weekend, and each one incorporates a meal. We have dinner together on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and breakfast at our Gatherings on Sunday morning.
One of the questions that we receive from other churches is ‘How’. It sounds like a nice idea, and it is not unique to eat together, even if less regularly, at other churches. But to feed hundreds of adults and children every week seems like a logistical headache.
But before we get to the ‘How’, we have to deal with the ‘Why’. Is it merely a nice idea? Or is there something deeper going on?
On this episode of The Shock Absorber podcast,
leads a conversation with me and Stu Crawshaw (Snr. Pastor) about the theological foundations of church hospitality and the joy of eating together as a church. We explore the practical and spiritual significance of sharing meals, which is grounded in the spiritual calling that we are called to be living sacrifices, expressing unity in Christ and serving one another. Also, The Hidden Hindenburg and how Hugo Eckener, the champion of German airships, ended up involved in the Nazi V-2 rocket program.
